Adorable heart star cookies

Featured in: Sweet Inspiration Bakes

These buttery cookies shaped as hearts and stars are delicately flavored with vanilla, offering a tender and lightly sweet treat. The dough combines all-purpose flour, softened butter, sugar, egg, and a hint of vanilla extract for an easy-to-handle base. After chilling, the dough is rolled and cut into shapes featuring small holes for threading colorful ribbons once baked and decorated. A simple lemon-glazed icing adds a smooth sweetness, which can be tinted with food coloring for personalized designs. These treats are ideal for gifting or festive celebrations, and their light texture pairs wonderfully with tea or sparkling wine.

Can I use a different extract for flavoring?

Absolutely. Almond extract or other mild flavors can be substituted for vanilla to create unique aromatic touches.

What’s the best way to decorate these cookies?

A simple lemon glaze made from powdered sugar and lemon juice provides a smooth surface to add food coloring or drizzle patterns before threading ribbons.

How should I store these treats to maintain freshness?

Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week to preserve their buttery texture and flavor.

Are these suitable for vegetarians?
