# Directions:
01 - In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
02 - Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and mix thoroughly.
03 - Sift together the flour and salt, then gradually fold into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
04 - Shape the dough into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
05 - Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
06 - Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) thickness. Use a boot-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
07 - Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden. Remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
08 - Combine powdered sugar and milk to create a thick, spreadable glaze. Divide and tint with the desired food coloring.
09 - Spread colored icing on cooled cookies and garnish with sprinkles as desired. Allow icing to set before serving.
